horses, so many horses

24 May

horses, so many horses

on a bright sunny day

dressed up in the best of leather

and the spurs are shaped like stars

lovely is the place where no clocks can

keep the time

and lovely is the feeling where I can

run my fingers across your face

and whisper

horses, so many horses

standing nobly in a line

notice how the empty saddles

the spit and the shine

but all the heroes are somewhere

just past the distant mountains

chewing the fat and

saying things we never thought

they would

“never depend on the last minute rescue” she said

“and then when you least expect it”

“yes”, she said, kissing my cheek

“then they just might surprise you.”

I looked out the upstairs window of the old hotel

horses, so many horses

the dust is getting in my eyes
