not enough hands

3 Aug

so many people needing to be seen

heard, and most of all, touched

but there doesn’t seem to be enough hands

enough ears or eyes

to hold them

they beseech us, they beg us, they long for the day

when someone will take the splinter from their eye

and the reluctance from their fingers

sometimes we all act as though there

isn’t enough love to go around

we have to measure it out carefully

it’s a pity that our quilt won’t cover

all of those that are cold

not enough hands

not nearly enough hands to go around
