i speak in jest

17 Aug

to be solemn is to be all dried out

baked in the harsh judgement of the sun

to be serious is to be like a solid beam

of unbending, uncompromising, iron

to be noble is to be a statue

grown over with moss

cracked from the collective centuries of complaints

which is why

i speak in jest

to be funny is to be as a feather

tickling you with a delightful disregard

for etiquette of pleasure

to be a will o’ the wisp

an uninvited guest

to tell a joke is to be that rubber knife

a soft truth that can bend

so when the occasion calls for it

and it always does

i speak in jest
